This camp is for the serious art student who would like to use visual art to increase technical skills and to develop their personal aesthetic. Original work created during camp will be displayed at a special exhibit at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts at the closing reception. All supplies provided at no cost.
This year’s Advanced Visual Art Camp will focus on cartooning and creating an original, collaborative graphic novel. Students will learn the basics of drawing a face and head, how to create a body, character design, how to add expression and emotion to our characters, and comic book analysis. Campers will create original comic characters, pages, and covers. Student work will be compiled into a printed comic book anthology that each student will receive at the end of camp.
To apply for this camp, send images of three different works of the student’s art plus a 100-word written response answering the following questions along with the completed summer camp application. Applications submitted for this camp without the requested materials will not be processed.
- What experience have you had with visual art at school, home, or elsewhere?
- What are you hoping to gain from this experience?
