Exploring Historical Figures through Portraits and Papercraft
Grades: 3-12
Subjects: English Language Arts, Social Studies, Visual Art
Max. number of students per class: 30
History books are full of images of historical figures that provide information often not found in the written text. In this residency, students learn how to read a portrait to gain a deeper understanding of an historical figure and what they might have been like as real humans. Students will create a small book using a variety of household and found items to hold the pieces they discover about an historical figure as well as insights they learn about themselves in the process.
This residency is adaptable to most grades and any historical figure with portraits available.
Led by Tracy Sawyer, keeper of stories through scrapbooking, paper crafting, and journaling.
