Using Comics to Understand Points of View
Grades: 4-7
Subjects: English Language Arts, Social Emotional Learning, Visual Art
Max. number of students per class: 35
Limited availability.
Using the medium of cartooning and making comics, students will develop characters and stories to understand how a single event can be interpreted in different ways depending on the point of view of the character. Through drawing games and exercises, students learn to identify, ignore and dispel the negative-talk art gremlins that try to prevent creative action. Students will then explore story structure, archetypes, and characterization to bring their characters and stories to life. This residency concludes with every child presenting their very own comic to the class.
Residency requires projector and/or HDMI compatible screen in the classroom.
