A new drama created from personal diaries, journals, and documented historic narratives. Trace the American immigrant experience from Jamestown to the present day through the dramatic stories of ordinary people who departed their homelands in the hopes of creating a new life. Richly diverse stories come to life through dramatic monologues with a backdrop of projected images and video, personifying a shared history spanning some 400 years.

LBC performance may not include pieces from above photographs.

Easily apply these content standards in your classroom:

  • SL.1: Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grade 6 topics, texts, and issues, building on others’ ideas and expressing their own clearly.
  • RL.4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including figurative and connotative meanings; analyze the impact of specific word choices on meaning and tone, including analogies or allusions to other texts.
  • 11-12.RI.6: Determine an author’s point of view or purpose in a text in which the rhetoric is particularly effective, analyzing how style and content contribute to the power, persuasiveness, or beauty of the text.

Students map their own family’s journey into the U.S., or throughout the Americas for those with Native American heritage, plotting starting points, entry points, and eventual settling points with corresponding dates. What patterns emerge when looking at all students’ histories?
