New World Ballet Presents
Duke Ellington’s Nutcracker Featuring the Marcus Shelby Orchestra
Saturday, December 23, 2023

$45, $55, $65, $80 and $100
New World Ballet and the Marcus Shelby Orchestra come together in this special holiday production of Duke Ellington’s Nutcracker. Exploring an artistic merger of classical ballet and jazz, New World Ballet students as well as Junior Company and Senior Company members will share the stage alongside professional dancers, with live accompaniment by the Marcus Shelby Orchestra. The production is choreographed by New World Ballet’s esteemed Artistic Director Victor Temple (Dance Theater of Harlem, Oakland Ballet, Cirque du Soleil). Act I is set in a jazz club in the 1920’s and includes all of your favorite characters from the Nutcracker, grooving to the incredible score of Duke Ellington. In Act II, New World Ballet’s Junior and Senior companies perform holiday and other repertoire pieces. Come celebrate the holidays and support a local dance academy from Santa Rosa, CA!
New World Ballet offers pre-professional dance education to dancers ages three years to adult in Sonoma County. New World Ballet is a BIPOC-led nonprofit organization that supports equal opportunity for high-quality dance education. You can learn more about New World Ballet by visiting www.newworldballet.com.
