FLAME

The stones for Flame and its pedestal came from Academy Quarry, in the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada range, near Yosemite. They remained untouched for several years, as I waited for the creative epiphany I knew was to come.

Most of my sculpture work has been abstract forms. These forms found their fullest expression with Flame, when its form finally emerged in my mind’s eye. I was fascinated as never before at imagining and examining the long flowing lines produced by these broad intersecting surfaces. — Frank Locatell
