Master class with North Bear a real eye — and ear — opener for JC students

Music students at Santa Rosa Junior College got an authentic dose of the American West on Friday. Members of North Bear, a Native American drum and song group from the Northern Plains, presented a master class for the students. One of the pow-wow trails hottest young groups, North Bear shared the history and cultural background of their music and then performed a variety of songs. Their powerful music filled the halls of the JC and left everyone feeling grateful for the experience. Later that evening, the group performed at the Center in “Don’t Fence Me In:  Songs, Music and Poetry of the American West.”

The performance is touring throughout the U.S., bringing together an exceptional group of artists. The master class at the junior college was provided free-of-charge through the Education through the Arts program of Luther Burbank Center for the Arts.
