14th Annual Fiesta De Independencia Celebrates Hispanic Heritage in Sonoma County

With the most festive time of the year upon us, we’re highlighting scenes from one of our most festive community cultural events of the year: Fiesta de Independencia! With the generous sponsorship of Redwood Credit Union, for the 14th year, we presented this popular community-wide celebration of the Latin cultures, people, and traditions in Sonoma County.

Organized in partnership with the Center’s Latino Advisory Council, each year, Fiesta aims to increase awareness about the history and tradition of Latin countries, service organizations that support our community, and the many Latino businesses in Sonoma County.

Don’t miss another highly popular cultural event this month: The tradition-filled Posada Navideña brings to the LBC a night of happy, high-spirited holiday celebration with lively dance by Calidanza Dance Company, a candlelight procession, colorful costumes, festive music, and song, December 8.

Members of LBC’s own Mariachi Cantares de mi Tierra performed on the outdoor stage at the 14th Annual Fiesta de Independencia.

Fiesta is one of LBC’s free education and community programs that take arts experiences beyond our walls to where local families live, learn, and play.

Deputy Consul General Vincente Sanchez from the Mexican Consulate in San Francisco declared the traditional Grito de Indepencia (Cry of Independence) – the ceremony in which he proclaimed, again, an enactment of independence.

LBC’s Fiesta de Independencia has grown into one of Sonoma County’s most popular celebrations of Mexico’s independence and Hispanic Heritage month. In September, 4,300 local community members came to the Center to attend this year’s festival.

Fiesta de Independencia is one of the many ways LBC brings the community together to celebrate the rich history of the diverse Latin cultures and people who are an integral part of the North Bay community.
