14 Sculptures Bring Geometry and Aesthetics Together in New Sculpture Garden Exhibit

In our commitment to expand the community’s access to the visual arts, the LBC recently worked with local artists and the Voigt Family Sculpture Foundation to bring a new exhibit of 14 works to its outdoor Sculpture Garden in Santa Rosa. Titled Geometry In Art, the exhibit is free and open to the public from September 2023 to August 2025.

Geometry In Art celebrates the intersection of geometry and artistic expression through the works of nine extraordinary artists, each presenting a unique perspective and aesthetic through their exploration of form, line, and negative space. Artists include Dee Briggs, John deMarchi, Robert Ellison, Peter Forakis, Briona Hendren, Michael McGinnis, Rob Senn, Doug Unkrey, and Al Voigt.

“Through their work, these artists invite us to immerse ourselves in a world where aesthetics and mathematical principles harmoniously converge,” said Anita Wiglesworth, Vice President of Programs and Marketing and curator of the exhibit. “They use the language of shapes, rhythms, and repetition to speak to the senses, inspire contemplation, and foster a deeper appreciation for the inherent beauty of geometry that permeates our world.”

An opening reception on September 17 was attended by more than # donors, Board members, members of the Visual Arts Advisory Council, staff, and volunteers. Several of the artists were on hand to present their work and expressed appreciation for the support they receive from the LBC.

“As the seasons change, we encourage the community to visit the Sculpture Garden often to enjoy some of our additional engagement opportunities there, such as our Northern Lights Winter Lights Art Walk, Artist Talks, and docent-led tours throughout the installation,” said Anita. “One Geometry in Art sculpture in particular, Block Party, by Doug Unkrey & Al Voigt, will change orientation throughout the show. Come visit to see how it alters the space there – and your own perspective!
