SANTA ROSA, CA (November 4, 2014) – On Friday, December 19, at 7 p.m., Luther Burbank Center for the Arts presents one of its signature annual events: Posada Navideña. For the eighth consecutive year, as part of the Rodney Strong Vineyards Dance Series, Luther Burbank Center for the Arts highlights the multi-cultural aspects and diversity of Sonoma County’s community with this presentation featuring traditional Mexican folkloric dance and music.

Posada Navideña is a very special and important annual event for the Bay Area Latino community and we applaud Luther Burbank Center for the Arts for its commitment to present this,” observed Rafael Rivero, member of the Center’s Latino Advisory Committee, as well as Community Outreach Coordinator for the City of Santa Rosa. He continues, “This distinctive holiday celebration honors a beloved tradition and for many families here it is the only way to share that ritual with new generations. With the support of Rodney Strong Vineyards Dance Series, Posada at Luther Burbank Center for the Arts is such a festive and fun performance, it can also be a cultural bridge reaching all of our neighbors.”

Experience and celebrate the wonderful folk culture of México in this exhilarating Christmas production. The Posada Navideña will transport you to México for an uplifting dose of the beautiful culture and colorful customs. From the Tarazcos and Nahuas indigenous rituals of central México and the “callejoneadas” of modern Jalisco to the theatrical “Pastorelas” of the mastermind Miguel Sabido, Ballet Folklórico de Sacramento will feature 20 dancers and musicians for an end of the year celebration under the artistic director Dr. Zenón Barrón.

Dr. Barrón earned his Ph.D. in dances with a thesis in diverse indigenous communities from Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes in México City. He danced with the world famous Ballet Folklórico of México of Amalia Hernández and was also a recipient of the prestigious Malonga Casquelourd Lifetime Achievement Award and Corazón del Barrio Award of Excellence in 2012.
