Students learn hip hop from master dancer Sebela Grimes of Rennie Harris Puremovement

The Center’s Education Through the Arts program hosted a master class on Friday, March 9 with visiting hip hop artist Sebela Grimes. Grimes met with about 40 dance students from Santa Rosa High School ArtQuest and Santa Rosa Junior College. A professor at UCLA, Grimes also performs with Rennie Harris Puremovement. The troupe, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary, is known world-over as the “ambassadors of hip hop.” They performed Friday morning for a theater full of students, and again on Friday evening for the public. The master class, which the Center presented free-of-charge through its education program, allowed local dance students to work closely with Grimes, who is without-a-doubt one of the finest hip hop dancers in the world.
