Mood Jungle was formed in 2020 by members Chris Newton, Tyler Smith, and Hannah Huyoa. With shared influences of R&B, rock, and jazz, they released their self-titled EP, Mood Jungle, in 2022. At the same time, Chris Newton was writing and arranging music to feature a three-part horn section with Brandon Day on trombone, Rob Wegner on alto saxophone, and Andre Louvre on trumpet to form the sextet that is heard on Mood Jungle’s first full album, Lost in the Jungle,” released in 2023. The band signed with SRJC’s student run record label, Don’t Flunk Me Records, and released their second EP, New Leaf, in April 2025.
