Discover Your Next Favorite Comedian! 50th Annual SF Comedy Competition

Who are the next big names in comedy? You might get a chance to see them before anyone else does when the 50th Annual San Francisco Comedy Competition brings a lineup of rising comedians to LBC for a night of stand-up, surprises, and plenty of laughs as performers vie to prove they’ve got what it takes.

The SF Comedy Competition has an impressive track record when it comes to spotting talent. In the very first competition, a young comedian named Robin Williams finished second. Dana Carvey took the top prize in 1977 before becoming a Saturday Night Live star, while Ellen DeGeneres was a finalist in 1985. Patton Oswalt, Sinbad and Dane Cook are among the other future comedy stars who have competed over the years.

That makes the evening a little more interesting than your average night of stand-up. You’re not just watching comedians perform, you’re watching them compete, which has a way of putting comedians through their paces. They have to take their acts on the road, some for the first time, and face audiences in a variety of venues along the way. By the time they arrive at LBC on Sept. 19 for the semifinals, they’ve already been tested and one step away from finding out who will take the title.

Goosing the laughs will be host Mike E. Winfield. On a comedy hot streak after receiving the Simon Cowell Golden Buzzer and from various appearances on America’ Got Talent, Mike is also known as the warehouse worker in Season 8 of NBC’s The Office or the loyal friend to Keke Palmer in the movie Pimp.
